104 Days of Summer Vacation

OK, so I didn't really count how many days there are in this summer vacation, but that's how the song goes. Are you familiar with Phineas and Ferb? With a creative 5 almost 6 yr boy in the house I sure am. Those cartoon boys are his idols. He loves everything they build, and he truly believes that he can build those exact same things. We've had many trips to Lowe's browsing the lumbar isles with a pen and paper in hand making lists of all the supplies needed to build his next big dream idea. Of course, he's 5, so we usually end up making a popsicle stick version.

So today starts our first official summer vacation. I picked him up from his last day of kindergarten and now we have nothing planned until the first day of school that happens sometime in a few months. Many of the the other kindergarten moms have been counting down to this day for weeks. They're tired of packing a lunchbox, tired of alarm clocks, and ready to take those trips. Not me. I've been dreading it. My son is energetic: his body and mind never stop. (So basically he's like most 5yr boys.) But this means hard work on my end to not let either of us go crazy. With my facebook mommy friends in other school districts already making posts saying how bored their kids are I'll be the first to admit it.... I'm scared.

But I have a plan. Before entering into this crazy world of mommy-ness I used to come up with ideas for a living. I created children's programs for places like the Boys & Girls Club, summer camps, and even the city library. I was the one that parents eagerly shooed their kids off to to keep busy while they caught their breath for a brief moment. I was the energy filled, idea filled, eager to do the fun stuff person. Years of diapering and muck filled days followed by sleepless nights has somehow drained that creative energy from me. But it's time to bring it back. I can and will be the idea filled fun person for my children this summer.

So here's the plan. Everyday this summer (all 104 of them, give or take) I will do some fun, creative, and maybe even educational activity with my kids. I will keep this journal of ideas to share with other moms that are just as scared of putting on the "mommy show" all summer long too. Read what I do, use the ideas you like, and good luck! This is do-able!
